Objectives: During prenatal neurodevelopment, maternal-to-fetal thyroxine (T4) transfer is critical, particularly during the first half of pregnancy when the fetal thyroid gland is immature. Transcellular transport of thyroid hormones (TH) is facilitated by TH transporters.
